The Conversation

Well now I have to take all of the information I've gathered through my research and write a 4-6 page paper concerning this topic of abortion. The hardest thing I've found in writing this paper is decided which area of abortion to tackle. The psychological and physiological on the patients and family, the economical strain it has placed on the nation and even the legality and moral precedence are all great topics to cover however I'm not allowed to show any bias but just present the information I've found.

To be honest, when dealing with a topic such as this it is close to impossible to neglect your own feelings and beliefs and become unbias. However, being one who is pursuing a career in psychology I have to learn how hide my feelings and personal opinions...but that doesn't stop me from being who I am. I refuse for the sake of being politically correct or in an effort to not offend anyone to be hypocritical and give the appearance of supporting something I know in truth is wrong.

This project is suppose to aid us in adding to the conversation on our chosen topics. It has taught me how to present an argument in a balanced and logical manner which only serves to improve my communication skills with others both in the professional and personal arena. As of right now, I have not yet composed the body of my paper...and it's due Friday. All I can say is I thank God that I work well under pressure because come tomorrow I have to pick up the pace and have my rough draft completed so I can get assistance from our writing center.

Has self control lost control?

As you've seen in the previous postings we have explored the moral stance, legality of abortion as well as it's psychological and physiological effects on individuals. We have also discussed the negative effect this possibly could have in the world because of the absence of an individual who God has ordained to do something great that would tremendously affect the lives of people for the better. This particular post will be dealing directly with unwanted pregnancies among teens and unwed individuals.

In the midst of the controversy that surrounds this issue I have noticed that not many have addressed this issue of preventing unwanted pregnancies. So I've decided to tackle this issue head on and not evade it like so many have decided to do. And since I'm not concerned about being politically correct and believe in presenting the truth as it is I'll get straight to the point.

The leading cause to unwanted pregnancies derive directly from sexual intercourse where contraceptives are either not used or fail to perform properly in preventing impregnation. The forms of protection used in the United States come with a disclaimer that clearly states that it is not full proof but only greatly reduces the risk of pregnancy as directed and enforced by the FDA. But we all know that the only way to protect oneself from becoming pregnant is by eliminated the factor that causes it...Okay, let me make this clear, abstinence. I can hear the many thoughts that are racing through your mind right now, but stay focused and remember we're talking about pregnancies amongst our children. Many will be quick to disagree or disregard this as people in general don't like to do things that cause them to be in a place of discomfort...or held accountable for their actions. But let's face it, we know this is true and make logical sense but still we say “there must be an easier way.” So I ask, is there really? Is it worth it? What's so hard about exercising self control? Have we become so weak that we dare place the blame of our own mistakes on something else? Leave me your comments and then I'll give my conclusion on this matter.

Ooops we did it again!

Society has become desensitized and blind to our past mistakes due to the selfishness and self-centered mentality of people today, leading us to ignorantly make the same mistakes again. America has come through some of the most trying times and tremendous changes have been made in an effort to improve the lives of the inhabitants of this great nation. Unfortunately there seems to be a devastating pattern that we to fall prey to bringing the advancement of the people to a halt and causing mass confusion and separation. Once more we face the issue of equality but this time it's not dealing with skin color or ethnic origin, but rather the questioning of who is considered human. I've viewed numerous ads, pictures and other mediums used to either speak against or support abortion. However when I saw the visual I've based this analysis upon it gave me a new perspective of abortion and a greater passion to write about it, in protest.

This depiction is by far one of the most influential pieces of work created in contrast to abortion and deserves serious consideration. As stated previously America has, just recently, overcame one of the most controversial issues faced in this nation and it has become a staple in our history...slavery. Yet here we are again dealing with the issue of whom we consider to be fully human and while we're debating this in the courts, at board meetings, in the town halls and even within the walls of the White House children are being stripped of the very thing given to them by virtue which is life. This picture effectively and profoundly depicts the underlying correlation between the abortion of an unborn child and the killing of African American slaves. Consider the history of the slaves, they were forcefully brought to America by the decisions of others. And made to serve against their wills, being beaten and killed because of the misconception of who they were. Now we're faced with a similar issue of aborting unborn children who were brought into reality by the decision of others, yet they are destroyed because of the misconception of who they are...do you see the
pattern?

Aborting abortion

A person's right(s) end where another begins. This principle upon which our Constitution was built and formulated, was designed to protect the rights of all people. We understand that here are certain inalienable rights given to us by our Creator, however these rights are not guaranteed to be granted or protected by the laws of man. Because of this, controversy arises, as well as a chance to come together and reason with one another. The issue of abortion extends beyond a woman's right to do with her body as she pleases, and reaches into the realm of denying the very gift given to mankind...life.

As a pro life advocate I believe that under no circumstances should a child be aborted. And that abortion only serves to rob this world of a potentially great individual, and their impact in the world. Every child, despite the conditions in which they come into this world, is a gift from God. Their lives and contributions have been predestined and ordained by Him. Imagine what our world would be like today if some of the greatest people in history were aborted. Thomas Edison, invented the light bulb; Alexander Fleming (and Jonas Salk), discovered penicillin and Martin Luther King, who fought for equality. Their accomplishments are not only world known but were life changing for generations to come. If they had been aborted, and consider yourself as well, there would be such a tremendous void in this world. Give the same opportunity and right that you enjoy today...life.

In understanding our responsibility to preserve life, we become better equipped to choose wisely and in a manner that is not detrimental but beneficial to mankind. This blog is set up so that I may hear your opinion on this issue. Feel free to speak candidly but please be respectful to others.
